FAQs

• How long is the rental period?

Friday 1 pm to sunset and Saturday morning through Sunday at 3 pm.

• How many people can we invite? How many people does the barn hold?

Currently the property is only available for rent as a property to host tent weddings with the barn serving as a backdrop or for use for your wedding ceremony only.  The barn is available for rental as your reception venue beginning April 2017.

What is the site rental fee?

We offer a number of packages: Renting the property for tent weddings, renting the barn as a wedding ceremony or reception venue, wedding WITH event planner included, an add-ons, depending on your vision and budget.  For fees, please email Heather at heathershopkins@thegreatworksbarn.com.

• Are tents permitted?

Yes, tents are allowed in designated areas. If it takes more than the standard set-up time (4-8 hrs), there will be an additional $200 daily impact fee. Please contact us directly before renting a tent.

Additionally, we have an outdoor location specifically designed for tent setup and can discuss this option with you at your convenience.

• Is there back up power?

The barn has back-up lighting should there be a power failure.

• What is the size of the barn?

The barn is an intimate 57’ x 42”, the center aisle is 11 ft wide, 2,394 sq feet.

• Are there guest accommodations?

Not at this time.  We suggest finding a hotel in Portsmouth, NH or Dover, NH, both 20 minutes from The Great Works Barn.

• Can we cook on open flames or have fire pits?

We do not allow open flames or fire pits. Cookers must be contained and located in a designated area behind the barn and near the kitchen access door.

• Can we spray for mosquitoes?

You may use an all-organic spray. Treatment is at your own expense. Please email Heather at heathershopkins@thegreatworksbarn.com for more information.

• Is the property on the riverfront?

Yes, the barn overlooks the Great Works River with roughly 800 feet of riverfront with a small landing for photoshoots.

• Is alcohol permitted?

Yes. A licensed State of Maine bartender or catering company must carry proof of their liquor license. Otherwise you must obtain Host Liquor Liability Insurance for the duration of your event.

• How do we reserve a date?

To reserve the property, please contact Heather at heathershopkins@thegreatworksbarn.com.  A contract will be sent to you for signatures. A 50% non-refundable security deposit is due when remitting your contract. The remaining fees are due 60 days prior to your event. Payment MUST be received in the form of a credit card payment, wire transfer, check or paypal. NO EXCEPTIONS.

• Are there any other restrictions I might need to know in advance?

Smoking is restricted to the designated smoking areas ONLY outside of the barn. No pets. No candles in the barn due to the fire hazard. No fireworks. No floating sky lanterns. Please call if you are unsure whether something you are planning is appropriate for our site.
